Ive had 2 or 3 corys die over the last few days, thought not much of it as all three were really old. Just went to feed the fish and one of my plecos is dead. Im devistated and dont want this to happen to any other fish.
Since its the sucker fish that have been dying, could it be the green bamboo we put in when we set the tank up as the other fish seem fine, its just the ones who suck on the bamboo that seem to be dying.
Please help, do i take all the bamboo out or is it just coincedence?
Thanks.
Aimsley.

Well, I'd certainly take out the bamboo if there's even the slightest chance it's killing your fish! I don't think bamboo should be in the tanks anyway. I wouldn't keep it.

be rid of the bamboo, i think it actually releases toxins to some extent, that could be the reason why your fish died...

the fish will thank you later... now go, run like the wind to your fish tank! (just remember to slow down first though...)

You should probably do a water test as well. if you have poor water quality corys are quite often the fisrt to go, although the plec should be hardy enough to last a while. . . unless he is old

ive had the plec a good few years...how long do they usually last?

longer than a good few years... i'd magine upwards of 5 at least... maybe upwards of 8?

i dont know for sure but i think 5 to 10 if they are looked after

we are doing a water test tomorrow once we get a test kit. for now the bamboo has been removed.

So we done a water test amd the nitrate and nitrite levels are a bit dodgy so we are dealing with it today and we will do another test in a few days time :)

Define dodgy.

One thing that helps us a lot here to help you is to get specific numbers when you're talking about levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

Well the levels were too high i think (boyfriend done the test) so we have put a nitrate filter in and are gona do a water change.

What the heck is a nitrate filter??
