ok well i know everyone here doesnt support dying fish and personnally neither do i but i am just wondering. if i were to get something like albino corys to breed, or say albino rainbow sharks to breed and i started to feed them something like just green or purple food, after a while, would they turn green or purple?

if so, would their fry, whilst coloured, also become green or purple?

is feeding the fish a safe way to colour fish?

I don't get it, why would you want green or purple unnatural fish? there are many different fish out there that already come in beautiful coloured varieties, why don't you just buy them?

i never said i wanted a coloured unnatural fish. i was just simply wondering if the colours would be passed dont to the fry

i acctually prefer natural fish. currently Im trying to produce goldfish fry which stay olive green instead of gold

no green food won't make them green. There is a process of dying fish which uses processed colored foods which dye the fish a certain color but off the shelf stuff won't do it. Oh and no the dye will not be passed down

The dye is like a tattoo, so it wont get passed down. Human babies don't get born with their parent's tattoos ;)
My red gourami's were fed something to make them a bright red before going to the lfs. Dunno what it was, but now, a few months later, they're starting to lose their bright red appearance.

You cant feed a fish blue food and have it turn blue..

You wont be able to find any types of food that ''dye'' a fish any color in stores.

You can get foods that naturally and healthily improve your fishes' colours, making reds redder and blues bluer etc. But it does that by promoting health and vigour with good nutrition which in turn makes colours brighter.

I've got Nutrafin Max, colour flake food. It's like normal algae wafers but it's all red. It's meant to enhance their colours but i dunno if it does. Guy in the lfs said the fish were fed some kind of krill before being shipped to the shop to enhance their colours.

Yeah, the best way to get brilliant colours in a fish is a quality, varied diet. :good:
