I have 10 red coral dwarf Xiphophorus maculatus. One fish has a discolored swelling on each flank. Is this worms, a tumor, pregnancy etc?

Is it on both sides of the fish?
Can we get a picture showing the fish from the front and back so we can see the swelling sticking out from the body?
How long has it been like that?
Is it eating normally?
Have you added anything new to the tank in the 2 weeks before this started?

Tumours or growths inside the fish can cause this and when the growth is on opposite sides of the body it's usually something growing inside the fish (not baby fish tho). It could be Fish TB or a cancerous growth. The other option is colouration that is paler in this fish and it might be carrying babies and that is making the cream area more noticeable.

At this stage I would monitor and see what happens over the next few days to weeks. If it gets worse, post more pictures asap.

Throwing @emeraldking a call and see if he has any ideas?

Well Colin, I agree with what you're saying... I also think that it's coming from inside the body. For we see that the red colration gives way to what comes out from within. And mostly beneath their base color shows white. Which is the case overhere.
