I saw on another posting that somebody mentioned dwarf platy’s, do they exist? And if so are they a product of in-breading?

The reason im asking is because we have 3 little platy’s in our large tank which are 4th generation of fry but they are only about 1.5 - 2cm long max and they must be at least 4 to 5 months old, is this normal for their age? :dunno:

They look so small compared to our other larger Platy’s that we bought recently. :D

Yep, there are Dwarf Platies. I believe 3fsh and pica_nuttalli have them. :)

I would imagine they are inbred, or selectively bred to get them smaller, but I never looked into them much.

Funny that your Platies are so small...though sometimes when you get down in generations, the fish get smaller. How big of a tank are they in though? And how often do you feed?

Perhaps your Platies had some Dwarf in them...I guess you'll have to see if they grow anymore!

The tank they are in now is a 47.5 UK gallon tank, but they were born in a 30 UK gallon tank (this one got a leak a few weeks ago hence the upgrade :D ).

They get feed a mixture of flake, frozen and dry foods once a day and eat well. They seem very happy in themselves and act just like the larger Platy's, they are just alot smaller.

Hmmm...maybe your Platies did have some Dwarf in them! That would be interesting...though I'd wait a bit longer, and if they are still this size a few months later, I'd say good chance they are Dwarfs, or part-Dwarfs. :)
