Do dwarf platies exist? I know there are dwarf versions of other fish. I have 4 adult platies... and just with every month that goes by it really highlights how much my first one is NOT growing. In fact, I'm not sure she has grown AT ALL since I bought her at the end of September. It is even more noticeable since I bought two platies that were her size at the end of December and now both of those have grown bigger than she is.

Here is a photo from the end of December. My platy was this size when I bought her in September, this size at the end of December (as in photo) and is this size still! The other platy is fully grown and your usual expected size... I'm sure you can tell which I am talking about! LOL

Runt of the litter?

No idea! I bought her thinking she was still a baby (or baby-ish) gambling she'd be a virgin (which she was)... but never expected she'd stay that size! LOL She is awfully cute and friendly.

How big is the larger platy? I was surprised when I saw some that were nearly 3.5" not including their tails as I always thought platies stayed at 2" XD

I haven't officially measured my larger platy but I'd be surprised if she was any bigger than about 2 1/2 inches in length, tail included.

Hmm... So the smaller one is about 1-1.5" long?

I would guess so, she is the one I'd be more likely to actually be able to measure as she is unable to resist coming to see me at the front of the glass.

The fact that she hasn't grown since September makes me wonder what age she might actually be.

Don't know if this is still an active topic, or has active interest, but I have a dwarf platy and am quite enthralled by him.  He was the offspring of a beautiful high fin red male (since deceased :( ) and a standard tuxedo female.  What came out  is a hifin (for his size) Golden wagtail.  Unfortunately all but two of his bros/siters were given to the LFS at an early age.  He has produced two litters ,both under 3 months so I haven't determined how large they will get.  Does anyone else have any insight into breeding "dwarf platys".  I am quite curious as to whether this if a "abstract throw" or an actual strain.  He seems very healthy and active (only male platy with three females in community tank).

I have three red platys around the same size as male endlers and they don't seem to have grown, they are really nice fish and one is already pregnant so they can be fry like the lfs suggested if they are having their own fry but I don't know, let's see what Google thinks.
