I am currently buying a 72 litre tank and aim to make it a community set up, i wondered if anybody knows anything about the dwarf gouramis, they look great but are they suitable and do they have any special requirements, if anyone has any information about good fish for my set up it would be great!

thankyou

The Dwarf Gourami is prone to parasites and an incurable virus...a lot of fishkeepers are having trouble with them. I think a school of Cardinal Tetras,( 8-10) and five corys would look smashing in a tank of that size........although you would have to fishless cycle the tank, first.

They're suitable. They do have some minor special needs - they're sensitive to water quality, so it's best to have a mature tank. They're also slow moving and have trailing "feeler" fins, so any nippy fish like tiger barbs or some of the bigger tetras is a bad idea. They're also on the list of fish said to provoke aggression from bettas. Not a special need, but they area also prone to an untreatable viral disease that sometimes makes them tough to keep. If you get a healthy one from good stock, and keep the water quality up, you should be ok.

My chap was a great addition. They get to much stick about being prone to this and that, and be aggressive to this and that. I have had no problems with mine, and he is with honey gourami’s, resbora and rainbows. They look great as well.
