My Dwarf Gourami has been hanging out most of the time right next to the tank heater. I am wondering if this is normal. I had a baby clown loach that came down with ICH and he spent some time near the heater. I moved him out and treated him but he didn't make it. I don't see any ich on any of my other fish. This behavior in my Dwarf Gourami just started in the last couple days. I have a Fire Dwarf Gourami and three regular Gouramis (different variets), plus other community fish. Should I be concerned?
Thanks.

How long have you had the Gouramies and do you know hat sex they are?
Also, what other fish do you have in the tank and what size is the tank? :)

I have a 55 gallon with two 60 gallon filters running. I have no idea if it is male or female. I have two silver dollars, an albino tetra, diamond tetra, clown loach, two very small plecos, three male sailfin mollies, a glo fish, zebra danio, one rainbow fish, keep in mind none of these are full size yet. It also appears that this Gourami is losing his color. Also, on one side of his head, under the skin there is a round black spot. It has been hours since he has moved away from the heater. Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like I may need a hospital tank.

I'm not sure what the round black spot could be but it's definitely worth putting him in a seperate hospital tank.
Can you get a photo of him at all so someone may be able to identify what's wrong?
I was wondering if he may have been chased by your other fish and that's why he was hiding?
There are a couple of ways to sex your Gourami:
The female is usually a little bigger and more fuller bodied than the male. Also, the dorsal fin is more rounded on a female whereas the male has a longer one which comes to a point.

I am pretty sure both my Dwarf Gouramis are males. I will have to work on the picture.

Male dwarfs are colourful, and females are dull in colour. That is the easiest way to distinguish them. What temperature is your water?

Have you seen any harrassment from the mollies? They have a disliking for gouramis, and maybe your dwarf is stressed out because of that.

Definitively move him to the hospital tank, and start treating with a med containing acriflavine. Dwarfs are prone to disease caused by stress... YOu will have to choose between our gouramis or your mollies.

Thanks, I have never seen my Mollies being mean to my Gouramis or any other of my fish. I have three males and they spend all their time chasing each other. I had a baby parrot fish in my tank until a couple nights ago, and I did notice that the parrot fish and my gourami seemed to dislike each other. I did find a few white spots on the gourami and my clown loach today so I am moving them to a hospital tank to start treatment. I hope that works.
