dwarf gourami

Can I keep a pair of dwarf gouramis (Colisa lalia) in a 10 gallon? Just wondering... Thanks...

Yes you can. But make sure its one male and a female off course... provide some floating plants and they might even breed.

That can actually be risky, dwarf gouramis can be as tempermental as bettas. I put in a female with my dwarf boy and her pestered her mercilessly. You've gotta be careful. I'd say try it, but only if you have a place to put her, or him, if it doesn't work out.

Yea julie, that's what I have been reading as well... And I don't think that keeping 2 males in the same tank would be such a good idea as well, and I read that many people report cases of their males being very shy and solitary... Also, I haven't seen any females in any of my lfs's. Yet. So what I am thinking of now is to keep just 1 in the tank, along with my 6 penguin tetras. I know that they aren't agressive, but would they need the company of another gourami to be happy?

Nope, they'll be quite happy by themselves!! My male has never been shy, or solitary. He's king of his tank, and he knows it. He's always out trying to catch danios, or bite the ram or cories. So your plan sounds great, good luck!

I just posted the same question the other day and both seem happy in their own tank.

Well, the thing is that I'm having trouble finding females... Anyways, I think I'll just go with the 1 gourami and see how he likes it with the 6 penguin tetras... Also, can I keep a pair of them with 6 penguin tetras? Overstocked? Thanks for all your help so far guys. Really appreciate it...

I'm not sure, how big are penguin tetras? if they're under 2" and eaceful I'd think it would be ok but I don't know much about them
