hi have two dwarf gouramis but one of them is ill i think
symptoms:
-not as active as normal
-lost most his colour
-head looks quite boney (lost weight)
-fins completely see through
-he has what seems like a scar on his head but its been there for about 1-2 months but didnt see any wound

he was nipped a few weeks ago, he is still eating but he just sits on a leaf or the floor until i feed him.

water stats are fine
no new additions to the tank
Thanks
Lloyd

Do post the water stats (all of them). What have you been feeding him? Have you treated him with meds?

Treat with a generic tonic/anti-bacterial medication. I use eSHa 2000 which works well, other people might suggest something else.

How does his body weight look.
Is there any holes or pitting in the head region.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, darting, erratic swimming.
Do any fish have sunken in bellys.
Any fish show signs of a bent spine.
What does it look like when your fish go to the toilet.
What do the gills look like.

Sounds like a bacterial infection but need also to rule out parasites.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Whats the make of the test kit you are using.

he has lost a bit of weight but quite hard to tell.
his head looks like it has a large scar on which just appeared over night and is a bit of a dent.
he doesn't do much but sit on the bottom gasping except when he's being fed.
none of the other fish have anything wrong with them at all.
i haven't seen him go to the toilet for a while but he is quite hard to spot (lots of plants).
the gills are fine i think.

the tank is a 60L divided 20:40 he is in the 40L with another dwarf gourami and there is a betta in the 20L
its an api masters test kit
thanks for the help im going to add some stress zyme now and hope it helps him

Immediate water change.
Add a bacterial med.
Increase aeration.

What's the make of the test kit you are using.

Keep a look out for when your fish go to the toilet.

is it possible to load a pic onto the site.

What medication would you suggest?
the test kit is an api masters test kit
dont think a pic will be posable but will have a try.
thanks

Can you isolate and double dose esha 2000, or internal bacteria med by interpet.

You can double dose in severe cases, but it will knock water stats abit.

i have been meaning to buy a hospital tank so will get one after work tomorrow as well as the meds hope he can last until then
thanks

You can pick up some small plastic tanks with equipment quite cheaply.
You will need an airstone for aeration with the med.

Let me know how you get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

i have an unused pump and air stone so they will do

will keep you updated
thanks
