hi. I have purchased another dwarf gourami to day for the lonely one i already had. the new one is now in the tank, and the old one is chasing it around constantly trying to bite him. what should i do?

If you got two males, take one of them back to the store or buy another tank.

If one is a female,
#1) Remove the male from the tank (Just for a little while, so any small non-soaped container will do)
#2) Re-arrange all the plants.
#3) Do a 25% water change.
#4) Put the female back in. Wait about 20 mins for her to get situated.
#5) Re-introduce the male. The tank will look different and "taste" different, so he won't recognize it as "his territory" and won't be as aggresive towards her.

And if you didn't know, male Dwarf Gouramis are colorful, female Dwarf Gouramis are a silvery color.

ragtatter is right. seperation and then re-introduction is very much the only way there is. i had my dominant male taken out once when he got overly aggressive and then re-introduced him into a rearranged tank. from there, the one that was orginally picked on got the advantage and took control, all in all stopping the aggression

If it is a female, you'd better make sure you have 2 females, as otherwise she will be constantly hassled by the male. Since dwarfs are not too big, you should be able to have 3 in 20 gallon. Don't know how big your tank is though.....
