Dwarf Gourami Tank Mates

I'm not too sure about dwarf gouramis so please bear with me!

I'm planning on rehoming 1 dwarf gourami to a 6-10G tank. Is it possible to keep him with cherry barbs? If not I'll probably keep him on his own.

my dwarf gourami is with harlequin rasboras, and has had absolutely no trouble with them, but not sure about cherry barbs

Is it six or ten gallons? 10 is just about enough but anything less is too small IMHO

I'm going down to the lfs tomorrow to have a look at what they have. I was actually planning on starting a small tank for some small fish but I think my dwarf gourami would need the tank instead
