When does a Dwarf Gourami start to make a bubblenest? Is it when they are fully grown or do they start earlier?

im guessing they make a nest when they pair up

unlike bettas that are allways ready for action ... :D

but im not that experienced with gouramis

Bettas are gouramies - and they don't pair up. As it happens, neither do dwarfs (or realy, any otehr gourami species!). They are not like cichlids that pair up and then spawn. Males are almost always ready to build a bubblenest and find a mate for the day :p

Like bettas, dwarf gouramies can spawn once they are sexualy mature. This is usualy when they are about 1.5" in size - so pretty much all those at LFSs are ready to breed. The thing is, dwarfs don't build bubblenests quite as readily as bettas. They almost always have to have females present to start doing so (this has nothing to do with 'pairing up' BTW - it's just that, in the wild, it makes little sense to expend energy building a nest when you are unlikely to come across a female - even bettas build nests mroe readily in teh rpesence of females - or other, 'rivial' males - or when they have moved into a new 'territory'). Also, they are rather fragile and sensitive to fluctuations so won't build a nest or attempt to spawn unless they feel confortable. It can also take them a while to settle into a new tank and establish a territory - they won't build a nest if they don't feel they 'own' part of the tank.
