Fyurae
Fish Fanatic
My pair of DG's are breeding. I think they have already put eggs in the bubble nest. So here's the sit:
I redid my tropical 29, then discovered the grape wood was covering everything in slime. After finally getting everything deslimed (including the filter, sadly) the tank started cycling. I was hoping to avoid a cycle, washing the filter in tank water, but it didn't work. So now I am in a fish-in cycle with my rasboras. (not ideal, I know, but I don't have anywhere else to put them and I am watching it closely)
The gouramis are in a 20 long, along with about 10 cories of varying ages, and one betta. Right now, I have them separated into about a third of the tank. I know that after spawning, the female should be removed, but if they have already spawned (and I think they have, I can't see the nest clearly, but I think I see eggs, and she seems less eggy), it was within the past couple of hours. So right now I'm giving them a chance to rest before I try to get her out.
I am trying to figure out how to best save the fry. Would it be possible to put my net breeder under the nest, and scoop it up to protect it better? I realize this might bother the male.
Also, the tank is due for a water change, but since the nest is attached to the side of the tank I'm afraid to lower the water level. When do you think it would be safe to change the water, assuming I do the changing on the other side of the divider?
The divider is just a bit of screen, so I don't think its going to keep the fry in if they make it to that point.
As for food, I can go get some brine shrimp eggs, or get some microworms from a friend.
Also, is it normal for fish to look wasted after breeding? They look okay now.
Also, all the pictures I've taken are here, I'm not going to take the time to embed them.
