Hi all i am waiting on my 240tlr tank comming and was wondering if I could put 1 of these in it. I will be moving all of my tropicals(see sig) into the new tank, apart from the minnows and the neons. Also I am getting 2 pair of keyholes and 3 dwarf cockatoo cichlids. Just looking to know if it would be possible for these all to get along.

Cheers Dru

Keeping any kind of Crayfish apart from the Cherax is illegal in britain.
and these will make short work of your small fish

i heard dwarf crayfish (common name) only grow to 1.5 inch and is tropical (found in mexico) and is very peacful

quite right, they are great community critters. but as stated illegal here. and unlike most Cray they can be kept a tropical temps too. shame on our trade for its stupid selfishness. if they had looked after the signal when it was first farmed, too interested in profit to keep them secure, we may well all have had the opportunity to keep these, and many other Crays here in the UK!

[Yup, but it's still illegal to import or keep in the UK sadly. ;)

actually the import is not illegal, just keeping them.

I'd love to see you import them without keeping them, and without proof that you are licensed to keep them I should think that a customs officer that knew what they were WOULD confiscate them and inform CEFAS, just that the majority of customs guys wouldn't know a dwarf crayfish from a shrimp. lol. Also, without the correct licensing and health certificates it is illegal to import them (or any other species) from outside the EU. Have a read of this article.

It's always greed that messes things up for everybody, that and stupidity.

yep read that, and more importantly the DEFRA published guidelines. there is nothing illegal in importing cray, that can not be kept in the UK hobby, and then re-exporting them. as such the properly licensed import is totally legal. it is true it is illegal to import to SELL to the UK market. but that's all.
