Dwarf Cichlid Buddies For Rams?

Zoddy- do thy hang out together or pair off and establish territories? Do you have any other dwarf cichlids in with them? Thanks!

I had two from my old 125L and added 4 more when I moved to the 320L.

I've not noticed any territories being marked......they all seem to gravitate to the center front of the tank and there is occassional chasing between them, but nothing fierce. Not seen any signs of pairing yet, but have seen a couple of breeding tubes being displayed, so there's an indication they are 'in the mood'.

I've not get any other dwarves with them currently, but do have 6 angels with no inter-species issues. I used to keep a Dwarf Flag Cichlid with my eldest two with no bother whatsoever. Ther is also a more colourful 'version' of the Flag - the Red Breasted Acara, that I was considering for this tank. Lovely fish!

Thanks! Yeah, that's one thing I loved about my blue rams in the past- always in the front of the tank wondering what you're doing, following you around. :)

Haha, whomever told you that you could only have 4 rams in a 65g is crazy. The general rule of thumb per cichlids is 1 inch per 2 gallons. If we assume that each ram is 4 inches, you could fit 14 or so in there. I would hesitate to say that you could place 16 rams in there

wow, that sounds like a LOT. I've never read numbers anywhere near that in relation to the tank size and dwarf cichlids. Have you attempted this yourself?

I've limited myself to 6 bolivians in 80g (with other fish, obviously) because everything I had read seemed to say that was pretty much the limit.

It's a newer technique. I've read that people have done this and things similar with great success. I do not own that large of a tank, but if I did I would be willing to give it a try. I had never heard of this technique until about 2 months ago. You know how having a nano tank used to be really big? Everything was thinking about doing it. It's similar to that in that it's a new way of doing things. The general rule for cichlids is 1 inch per 2 gallons due to aggression but you obviously need to take into account the level of aggression, if the tank is a tall and your fish are bottom dwellers ect.
