Hello

Just bought a dwarf chain loach to see off the snails in the tank, but since coming home he is chasing fish everywhere and going a bit psycho. Is this normal and should it settle down ?

Thanks

how many did u get? and do u have plenty of hiding places?

A great way to lower your snail population is supposed to be putting a half cucumber(sinks better) or lettuce leaf at the bottom of the tank overnight and then removing it the next morning, hopefully with a significant number of your snails on it. Put in garden or trash it outside the house right away so they won't crawl around the house.

Great tip - thanks

Yeah, dwarf chain loaches really need at least 6 to be comfortable. Also, as you may have noticed they are very active. A 29g tank or larger is recommended.

as u guessed then yes they like to live in groups and this would explain why he's not acting very happily.
They will eat snails and if u have trumpet snails they are the best thing going, as they breed so fast them things.
