If you're after a "mellowing" lizard, i'd have to say a leopard gecko! 100% handleable, come in so many different colours, friendly, small, easy to look after.

Or even a Viper Gecko.... amazingly cute!

I must admit that is incredibly cute, how could you not mellow to that?

I am going to look at a 1 year old high-orange beardie next week though, she's very tame so i think it'll be a good starting point! my local reptile specialist recommended that i read up at rfuk to get more info on them, so thats exactly what i plan to do!

I have no doubt my reptile collection will grow and grow as soon as i'm able to move out though, ha watch this space!
