Can a goldfish be Very slowly Acllimated to a Tropical tank. My friend has a goldfish gettin to big for his 10 gallon. Hes had it 3 years since he won it a a winter carnival. Its about 8 inches and he wants to know if i will take it for my 55 if he can get it acclimated to tropical water. Is there any chance it could happen if you went really Slowly?

Its not a dumb question, and I'm happy you asked before you just went ahead! Kudos for that :)

I'm afraid the answer is no though, the tropical temperatures are simply way too high for the body of the goldfish to function properly. By highering the temperature, even if it happens very slowly, certain organs will start working less well untill stop working completely, causing an early death for the goldfish.

--Edit--

Also, I dont know what fish you have in your 55G, but goldfish are known to eat smaller fish that can fit in their mouth. Ottos for example often dissappear from tanks when people do try to keep tropicals and goldies together

Sure it's possible but I would advise strongly against it. There are just way too many complications to mixing tropicals with goldfish (besides temperature).

goldfishs' slime coat contains toxins
that are deadly to most tropical fish.

I live in a tropical country. I dont have a heater, well, coz the temperature doesn't drop below 23 deg celcius here.

I get all kinds of goldfish And they have well adapted to the temperature.

All the same, when I was a newbie, I used to mix tropical fish with goldfish and I never had a stable tank. So I would say, even though they CAN adapt to the temperature, dont ever mix tropicals with goldfish. Its a bad idea.
