Dull Neon All Down One Side!?

Of course, good luck, keep us all updated.

it'll be dead within a week anyway. think id put it out of its misery.

Well, a moments silence please.

Thats one "task" taken care of now about to do several changes of water.

I know to expect to see on the other neons if they get it, but what will I see on my other fish?

To recap:

2 Silver Tip Tetra
2 Albino Algae eaters
1 Tiger guppy
2 Red Eye Tetra
1 Plec - unknown type, rarely see it either.
1 Black Ghost Knife

What state will the filters be in, will they or anything else for that matter keep the infection... what can I do to make sure that the tank gets back to a nice balanced state?

Thanks for the advice eveyone!

Sven.

All you can do is water changes as they are no meds to help with this, only waterlife that says it treats ntd, which i would be wary when most articles say it's untreatable.
R.I.P. little fellow.

yeah id agree. it may wipe out a few more fish yet. if you see any tell tale signs swipe out the fish and do what needs to be done. at least you now know what to look for.

Morning Guys,

Thats the thing, I only noticed after it started to change colour, didnt see any change in swimming or anything like that.

Saying that, this morning one of the other neons seems to have probems staying submerged and looks like it has to constantly try to swim down as if its lost most of it boyancy. Hope this isnt it again. My silver tip seemed to have the opposite problem.

Bit worried, after the last silver tip died, I think most of the fish had a nibble of it because it died overnight.

bugger.

what else could go wrong now...

I think we may be ok, after a bit of reading I think its either a swim bladder problem (in which case it would be sinking) or its has swallowed a lot of air when it was eating.

I can't burp it, so I'll just have keep a very close eye on it.

I would put the fish in a container in the tank, just to be on the safe side.
I've had ntd not nice, is the fish also bloated up, don't like the sound of it, try some shelled peas and daphnia.

I checked last night and everything seems ok

All the colours are fine, swiming ok, hungry and managing to remain steady in the water.

I'm going to keep close eye on them for the next few weeks,

Is the only way to make sure that they don't get infected again is by moving tanks? I was thinking of buying a bigger one anyway and if it is the case I'd have to get it sooner just to get it cycled up before I move them.

Cheers everyone.. everyone should know of this fourm!

Sven

Oh, Wilder, you seem to know a lot about fish diseases, whats your background?

Yes you could move them to a new tank but you would have to cycle it again, as you can't use anything from the tank they are in, as the gravel or sand wan't throwing away, plus the plants, filter sponges wan't replacing i wouldn't even bother sterlising them, plus filter would want sterlising along time in a bucket of hot salty water running, then rinse in clean water again with the filter running, and let it dry out for a couple of days, same procedure with cleaning the tank.
Plus only healthy fish which you think have no signs of desease should be moved to the other tank, if you suspect a fish might have desease, don't bother transferring it as it will of just been a waste of time.

Mothing special just a housewife with two grown up children, and spare time on my hands.

I guessed I'd have to cycle a new tank, and I kinda guessed eveything from the old tank was almost useless.

My plans were/are:

New tank:
New substrate, decorations, tubes, plants, filters, CO2, lights, reflectors.. etc etc etc. Give it a month (ish) to bed in and then transfer the fish across.

Then with Old tank:
Bin the filters and most of everything else. (Keeping heater, pump et al)
I was then considering turning it either into a hospital tank, a tank for a Bearded Dragon, or perhaps a nano-marine.

Who knows. I'm not sure how small marine can go though.70ltr too small?

Yes it a bit small for marine, good luck.
