I need to eradicate duckweed somehow... Please give me some suggestions.

Here are things that I have already tried:

Netting it out (there are broken parts of roots and small leaves that the net misses and will regrow)
turning off the light completely (no use)

Here are some things that I know MAY work, but I will not try these:

buying duckweed eating fish (the tank is a coldwater tank but I don't want goldfish)
using copper

Are there any chemicals that are SAFE to use with the tank and would not harm me?? (the fish I can move out during treatment)

:/ it is not that bad.. just net it out.. it takes like 2 weeks to take over again...

Most people here are trying to get rid of duckweed and I'm actually trying to get it to grow a little. Send it to me! :lol:

Good luck with your situation. I actually find that netting it with a brine shrimp net works quite well. It gets the entire plant without breaking it.

Just out of curiousity, what's the algae status in your tank Meepster? Duckweed is an incredible algaebuster because the leaves actually have contact with the atmosphere and the plant is able to extract much more CO2 than your standard aquatic plants.

llj :)
