I was given some duck weed by a friend from their tank because they said it was a fantastic surface plant....now it has taken over my 10 gallon! its everywhere - the filter, all the decorations, floating on and IN the water at different levels...and I have decided to get rid of it and it is turning out to be impossible! I scoop as much as possible out with the net, then an hour later it looks like I haven't done ANYTHING - ugh help!!!

Not much u can do.
Rap it in black plastic for 3 weeks!

some fish will eat the stuff but very few.

You will need to completely empty the tank and clean all the decorations etc and the filter in the used tank water to make sure none is left then refill perhaps pouring half of the tank water back in but through a net to catch any remaining plants. Any that you do see reappear pick immediatly to stop them spreading or invest in a few snails. I have the opposite effect of not being able to grow the stuff in my tank despite trying!

Buenos Aires tetra is one fish that loves to eat it,get a couple and never suffer from it again (may have to starve them at first)

I wouldn't want to buy those tetras...I would be sending them to their death bc its my ACF tank lol...those fish would become lunch!!!

I'm in the same boat with my 40gal planted. No matter how much I remove theres almways a ton more by the next waterchange. I have tiny fish in there like galaxy rasbora, endlers, pygmy corys and shrimp so anything added to eat it would need to not eat them. To the OP, since its just a frog tank I think you might be best doing the no light thing or maybe borrowing a goldfish big enough to not be eaten by the frog. Goldfish make short work of duckweed.

I thought about that but then what would I do with the goldfish? my LFS are mostly just petco and petsmart and they onless there is something defective with the fish they won't take fish back in...and if they do its usually only for a swap out of another fish....eek

honestly, just keep scooping and scooping with a net...stir the water after every "scoop session" and do it again many hours later..give it a week or two. decrease your lighting and it wont be able to multiply as fast. aquatic turtles LOVE the stuff..if ur anywhere near new york, ill happily take as much as you want from you for my turtle.
best of luck!

In my experience, duckweed tends to have starts and stops. I'd continue scooping. It will eventually go away.
