I recently bought some dry ferts from aqua essentials but i cant seem to find any equations for adding the iron supplement or the trace ellements . If anyone could help it would be appreciated thanx . My tank is 250l by the way if that is of any help at all .

hmmm some of the guys here could calculate it for you but where is the fun in that :)

try searching the net for a PMDD mix for the trace elements.... and read a bit on dilluting and adding powdered ferts to your tank, or go to http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/

there is a good online nutrient calculator there

Hi

We haven't updated the site yet but for the trace mix add 1 tablespoon to 500ml of water to make a stock solution.

For dosage on a 100 litre tank, add 10ml of trace solution once a week or 3 times per week if you have a high tech tank using EI method.

At this stage we recommend dosing Iron directly to the tank, 1/10 teaspoon per 100 litres - I'll get back to you on making a concentrated solution.

thumbs up for customer service !

Thanks very much for you help in resolving this matter for me ...... customer care top notch !!!

Richard - Does your "Trace elements mix" contain ANY iron? Are you able to share the constituants i.e. % of each element.

Always nice to hear positive feedback eh? Good work!

There are always so many things I want to change with our site, I sometimes forget which one's I meant to do! Thank you for reminding me though and the break down of the trace mix is as follows:

Boron 1.06%
Copper 0.23%
Iron 8.23%
Manganese 1.82%
Molybdenum 0.15%
Zinc 1.16%

So from the above you can see that our trace mix is very similar to Plantex CSM, except ours already has Boron added where Plantex CSM doesn't.

As you know we also sell iron sulphate separately and stand by our dosing procedure of adding it directly to the tank. As it is not cheleated it could oxidise quickly, therefore making a stock solution would not be worthwhile. Oxidised iron is fine for uptake through plant roots but not plants leaves. Therefore adding it direct as a powder avoids this problem. Nevertheless we are looking for a chelated iron powder so that we can then offer customers a "recipe" for mixing a stock solution.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Richard.

How do you measure a 1/10th of a teaspoon (or less for a smaller than 100L tank)?

It's an approx so don't worry if you feel you've added a little too much :) However on smaller tanks, then it may be better to make up a soluble solution. On something like a 50L tank you would only add 5ml for example.

Cheers.

Please let me know when you obtain the chelated iron, will it be EDTA?

I was relying on my CSM+B alone for iron but witnessed yellow/green in my new glosso growth. Now I'm adding a Dennerle E15 tablet (and some K2SO4 just in case it's K def.) every week but will need something cheaper when I run out!

I'll let you know when I track down a chelated iron.

Don't forget the iron suphate does the job just fine providing you add it direct to the tank like I do.

George, have you tried our trace mix?
