Hi All,

I'm havving a problem with a couple of my fish.....a tetra and a molly. I have noticed that after they eat, they start swimming really weird. They do vertical circles, go upside down, and just swim really weird almost like they are drunk or cought in a vortex. After about 1/2 hour they are fine and back to normal.

I thought it might be swim bladder disease and I have put them on a course of shelled peas. Does anyone else have any idea of what this might be and how to treatit?

Thanks
Barday

certainly sounds like a swimbladder problem.....could be they are eating too much & this is putting pressure on their swimbladder. peas are a good idea.
have you checked your water parameters recently??
is this a new problem?

I have a friend whos neons do this - they swallow too much air when feeding, and this upserts their balance for a little while - they recover after a little while though.

Thanks for the help guys,

I've noticed that the poo has been long and stringy too, so could be internal paresites. I reccon that i'll carry on with the peas, unless anyone else has got any different ideas. Anyone reccomend any meds?

Sounds like swim bladder discomfort related to constipation, how many fish do you have and what plus what do you feed them and how much/often? White stringy poop sounds like internal bacteria.

Well, I don't feed them, my mum does......

There are about 10-15 assorted mollys (from fry to adult), 2 bn plecs, 2 corries, 2 clown loaches a few assorted tetras a bala shark and an ADF.

She feeds assorted frozen food, bloodworm (red and white) , krill, tubifex, artemia, daphnia etc...

shelled peas, cucumber, pleco teblets and flakes.

she alternates between frozen and flakes

I've heard that Crushed garlic is good for internal bacteria, u reccon its worth mixing some in with the frozen food?

Meds are best for internal bacteria, never heard of garlic been used so i can't comment on that, you should be able to get hold of "anti internal bacteria" by Interpet where you live for this  . Thats a lot of fish though, the other thing that can cause swim bladder disorders is water quality issues, how many gallons is the tank and what sort of cleaning maintanence does it get(like water changes and substrate cleaning sessions etc) and how often?
