Why do my Zebra Danios keep getting dropsy?!!

I don't understand it, water chemistry is fine and temp is normal. I thought ZDs were suposed to be hard as nails!

Dropsy can be caused by a large amount of bacteria in the water. Remove all dead and dying organic matter from your tank once a day or evry second day.

the thing is, there is never really anything dying in there, in fact I wish some of my plants would die because they're taking over, but i trim them back every time i do a water change (every 2 weeks)

Is there anything else that could cause it?

I think it may be water quality. But someone else might have another thought. Try increase your water changes to everyweek.

I had the same thing happen to me... I have no idea how my fish got it. Have you just recently got the fish or transferred them? Sometimes moving them can cause it... its one of those things that you cant really pinpoint

Dropsy can also be caused by internal bacteria, and due to your tank being very overstocked, even if you are maintaining good water stats, the stress of the over crowding and the company of each fish can make them much more suspectable to deseases.
I would get some internal bacterial meds and either rehome alot of your fish or upgrade to a suitable sized tank for them and then you should stop getting the dropsy in your fish.

If its only the one type of fish your having probs with did they all come the same LFS? (or even the same batch/purchased same time) if so is it possible to try another lfs? as they may have a different supplier/importer or just keep their fish in an enviroment more compatible with yours, just a thought
