ok so i have a little problem with one of my guppies....

stats of water:
ph: 7.4
ammonia: o.o
nitrite: o.o

i have 2 guppies they are my first batch of fry that i have ever had so they are very important to me....

today i noticed that one of the guppies has a very fat and square stomack ( it is like when afemale is about to drop ) but i am 100% sure that it is a male....

i am thinking that it might be dropsy?? What is it? i have heard of it... How do i heal it? and how do i prevent my fish from ever getting it again?

i have some pictures ( they are not that great )of them and a video ( it is good but please look at it all because the start is not that clear )

Dropsy isn't really a disease at all; it's a symptom (like a sore throat in people can have many different causes) but it's probably related to water quality.

There's not really much you can do except keep your water good, treat with something for internal bacterial infections and keep your fingers crossed.

ok the only anti-bacterial thing that i have is fungus and white spot ..... and this could not have happend at a worst time with easter 2morow i really don't think that my local petshop will be open.... i will do a water change 2morow morning ..... can a fish die of this ?

Yes, they can; once the scales start sticking out making the fish look like pine cone there is usually no hope; but you never know; lots of water changes is the best first aid.

I don't know why these things always happen on a saturday evening or a Bank holiday

did a water change last morning around 40% - 50% ...
the guppy does not seem to be getting any bigger but it does not seem to be getting any better...

do you think that i should do another water change? The stats are still all the same

I wouldn't expect to see ammonia or nitrites in a cycled tank, but what's your nitrate like? You can never do too many water changes.

(Oh, alright; there probably are situtations in which you can do too many changes, but they're so far and few between they don't matter :p)

I managed to save one of my platys and he is back to normal.
This is the link to the topic:

so do u think that i should but him in a salt bath for 10 min. 10gr of salt per liter? is normal salt ok? Eg table salt

The normal dosage for salt baths is around 1 tablespoon per gallon. Don't use normal table salt; epsom salt from the chemist is best, but aquarium salt will do.

You need to watch the fish and be prepared to move it if it shows signs of distress.

going to get the salt today :D how long do i keep it in there 5 mins?

Give it 10 mins but straight out at the first sign of any distress.
Are you using any meds?

no i am not using any meds but i do have ich and fungus meds but it seems that the bottle has leeked but there is still some in there.... i don't want to use it

what do you mean by sign of distress?

thanks

thanks
Lying on its side; trying to jump out; swimming about in a mad, mad panic; it will probably look a little upset; you have to use your judgement as to whether it looks just stressed or desparate to escape.

Dropsy is a symptom. You still need to try and treat the cause which is generally a bacterial infection. There are specific meds for it like the one i used in my topic.

what do you mean by sign of distress?

Kindly explained by fluttermouth
