Dropsy is often a bacterial problem.

Dropsy
Salt Bath Treatment for sick fish

The second link there, takes some reading but well worth it. I've used that as a resource for saving a fish that had dropsy before, however he didn't improve, so he had to be put down.

If you try treatment and your fish does not get better in a week or two of treatment consider putting him to rest, as he will be much better off.

if he has a bacterial dropsy then treatment of melafix at 10 times the stated dose and for 10 days may cure it.
I have had several successes (around 60% cure rate )with bacterial dropsy using this method on many a Danionin.

if the dropsy is caused by another thing, like kidney failure then I doubt anything can cure it.

well i gave him a 10 minite salt bath after research from the web.

im going to add melafi as wolf said (10x) and hope its not kidney failure

thanks again
chris

Bless him R.I.P.
