Hi all, well as above.....our big goldfish in our work pond has got a major case of dropsy....and what appears to be pop eye.
I have taken him out of the pond and put him in a quarentine tank under my desk at reception :p
What do you suggest I do next?
Or is he on his way to fishy heaven?
Should I bring in some melafix tomorrow morn?

I have lost 2 bettas to dropsy recently and I tried everything I could to save them. Once the scales are pine-coning or sticking out they are usually a goner :-( You could try epsom salt baths for it. If you do a search in this section for dropsy it will bring up some posts for you and you can see what you are dealing with. One of my bettas lasted over a week and I was doing regular epsom salt baths and had internal bacteria meds in there but I had to euthanise in the end.

Good luck with the goldfish and well done for spotting it was poorly in the pond

I know this pine coning effect can be caused by excess decaying leaf and vegetation in the water. Being a pond, try and scoop as much muck, leaves, dead plants etc. out of the water to help prevent pineconing.

Yes, some do survive, but it is unfroyunate that they are most likely to die.......

Once dropsy has reach the pine combing effect the fish won't make it, and popeye is closely related to dropsy, sad to say I don't hold out much hope, sorry.
