Hi, i seen a dragon wrasse (think thats what is was called) at a lfs today, i love them, it was only £18 can anyone tell me more about them, What can they be kept with, are they reef safe, that sort of thing?

Thanks

Gorgeous fish indeed. Their downside is that they're voracious invertebrate predators. They go after any snails, crabs, hermits, sea cucumbers, bristleworms, anything. And their method of hunting is somewhat destructive for a reef environment. They literally pick up small rocks/pebbles and drop/throw them around the tank, searching for inverts underneath them. So you really have to keep a tank without a good cleanup crew, and without any unsecured small rocks. Kind of troublesome in a reef environment. GREAT fish only species though...

I knew it, why can't any of the fish i like be kept in a reef tank, i will have a reef, no fish only for me  , just that everything i chose is not really compatable? i need some ideas soon

lol im the same, all the fish I really like are not reef safe. The dragon wrasse also changes as it gets older if I remeber correctly and then doesnt look as cool.

Heh, I have a good solution to that... throw them in anyways, feed them well, and hope your inverts aren't genocided.

Dragon wrasse can be kept with properly attached corals, but most motile inverts are fair game.
