Dragon Goby

There are three species that are sold under the name of 'Dragon Goby'
  • One requires strong brackish to marine conditions and will die quickly in freshwater (small head, short body, not very common)
  • One (G.broussonetti) is brackish only and cannot tolerate fresh water or sea water for extended periods. (small head, long body, bold stripes, commonly sold)
  • One (G. peruanus although often incorrectly sold as G.broussonetti) is brackish but can be acclimatised to freshwater. (although still thrives better in brackish) - (large head, bulky body, pale stripes, most commonly sold)
There's a fourth 'marine only' species too, but is almost never imported.

So in answer to your question, yes, Dragon gobies are brackish.

(There's also Rhinogobius Wui which is sometimes sold under the name 'Dwarf dragon Goby' and is a true freshwater fish.)
