Are sp. of Dracaena suitable for fish tanks? Someone said they aren't, but the person at my local pet store swore they were fine... Will they really rot and pollute the water? The one I have is commonly known as "white ribbon plant".

Thats what I was suspecting... Whatever, I'll just get a nice pot and plant it. They're a good looking plant.

Yeah, they are quite a nice pot plant, but unfortunately not suitable for tanks. The owner of my LFS went on a big rant about how they live fully submerged in ponds in Singapore so they'll be fine when I explained to my friend why I wasn't going to buy one. I believe that they are a marginal plant like water iris, so only have their roots submerged in water.

cheers,
Ben :good:

Do you think I could return it? Or probably not? I don't have the packaging...

Have you still got the receipt? I guess it depends if you wanna make a fuss. It'll look lovely on your windowsill.. :good:

Yeah, especially considering it was $4 for 4 small plants, I guess I'll just drop it... I'll go get a pot :)
