Hello! So I’m trying to lower the amount of tanks that I have— and so far I have no issue figuring out who goes in what tank except for my 4 pleco. I have 2 bristlenose(bought together) in a 55 gallon, 1 candystripped or clown in a 29 tank, and another candystripped/clown in a 20 gallon.

What are my options here?

Can I put both clown in the 29 gallon or would I be able to put just one of them with the bristlenose in the 55? I know pleco can be a bit territorial and if in a shared tank should be introduced together… but. Still. I’m in a slight pickle. I’ve had the clowns for about 3 years now? Maybe more and the bristlenose for about 1.

If it can’t be done I’m just gonna ask my dad if he can take one of the clowns and put it in his tank which doesn’t have any bottom feeders (same house same water) and keep the 29 gallon for any future fry

I don’t find those varieties to be overly territorial, not to say there won’t be the occasional squabble… but all 4 should be fine in a 55 gallon, as long as they can find an acceptable home within the tank… I’m not trying to breed, , and I have several varieties in a 45 gallon, with no squabbling going on…

I would try the two clown plecos in a tank together and see how they go. They might be a male and female and breed. If they fight then separate them and try one with the bristlenose.

If it's scaped properly with more hiding areas than you have plecos, you could house all 4 in the 55 gallon as long as your filtration is very good. If you run on a canister, it's a good solution.

I've got an L448, an L240, and 2 ancistrus in a 55g and they have enough space to themselves and have more places to choose from and because of that there's no fights over areas to stay.
