Sorry guys but the 'female' is just too colourful for me to be sure it's a she.

Take another vote on this if you don't mind please.

Oh, and getting the hang of taking photo's now as I have read the manual :hey:

Instinct tells me it's a female when you see them together but look at the colour of the fins. I know 'she' has the browner colour too, but.................?

The body shape and the fact that in some of the pics there is a yellowish colour to the fish would make me think female...

However male apistos are known to camoflauge themselves to look like a female when there is a more dominant male presence around. This happened to me before, I thought I had 1 M and 2 F, then two of them paired up and I moved the suspected female to another tank and boom, he grew bigger in body size and coloured right up.

Here is a pic of a female cacatuoides and you can kinda see some of that colour that yours has in the tail...Female ...so i think it is a female

I am certain it's a female.
She hasn't got the "cockatoo" rays on the dorsal fin and isn't as colourful as the male.
Are they fighting at all or do they spend time together?

Yup, Female.

Remember these little guys are "hareem" breeders. Your boy could do with another lady friend as long as the tank is large enough to provide adequate territiories. (spelt that wrong haven't I!)

If you do introduce another female however, be sure to move a few things around in the tank so the existing female doesnt think she owns the place. I tried to introduce a second female in my 200 litre tank and it simply didnt work.

nice colouration by the way!

Hi and thanks but, the tank is ......... :shifty: ........not really big enough as it is (see sig, but don't tell anyone  ). Wont be able to add another female and in any case my LFS only sell pairs and at a hell of a price too!
