Don't Mean To Make Anyone Jealous, But Look What I Found

Beautiful bit of wood. I recently had to pay £25 for a piece not even half as nice as that.

what do you think it best to get the bark off with? shall i scrub it with one of those wire ball things, or a brillo pad?

I've been trying to come up with a reason I'm not jealous. But I can't. I am.

the bark is red, well its more like a skin, will this type of wood be ok for the tank?

If it is a hardwood then it will be fine. Shops use a sandblaster to remove the bark so I am guessing that getting it off wont be easy.

I'm going to be watching this thread for tips. I'm fed up seeing nice pieces in the LFS and then almost collapsing when I see the price tag.

im tempted to hire a canoe from frimley lodge park and cut some of the tree roots off that are in the basingstoke canal. looks like swamp root.

ha, I know exactly where you mean!

Although wont they be a real pain to dry out/cure? I've no idea what the process is for preparing wood so that's it's ok for aquarium use.

i think as long as you soak it in boiling water for a bit it will be fine.

it would get me some funny looks tying my boat up and bringing out a saw, then hacking away at the bank of the canal lol
