If I don't use RO water, would putting my tapwater through one of thoses 'purifiers' help? I mean the ones like 'Brita filter' e.t.c.

No.....I have a PUR water filter and depending on the season, the water will test positive for between 5-20ppm nitrates. If you are curious, take a sample of your 'purified' water and test if for eveything at the lfs or your water district. You'll be surprised at what is NOT filtered out. SH

Water Purifiers aren't worth any money atall. RO isn't hard to fit either.
