Hi Guys, need some of your expert advice, started a new tank about 16wks ago, have taken great care to stock the tank carefully and have been checking the water chemistry very carefully too. Which up to now has been going very well.
However on Monday noticed my two loaches have Whitespot, So i came on to this site and read what people had recommed how to get rid of it. First i done a 50% water change, i raised the water temperature to 29c and then started a med using Waterlife Protozin which is into day two.

However i've just finished a water test and the Ammonia level is zero excepted the Nitrite level has spiked.
But i think this maybe due to i've slightly increase the feeding.
I now have the problem that i have just started the treatment for whitespot and a small water change at this point would dilute it however i have this Nirtrite spike which will do harm to the fish. Any advice would be appreciated.

regards Grazychef.

hi,
welcome to tff,
whats the reading of nitrite?
if its not to high i would carry on with the treatment, is it the 4 day treatment? ive not used it before.
cut right back on the feeding for a while, have you an air stone for extra oxygen?
hope all works out for you :good:

Hi and thanks, The Nitrite reading is between 0.1mg-0.25mg, and yes it is the four day treatment.
Not quite sure what you mean about the air stone though?
Regards

Hi Grazychef, when you say 4-day treatment, do you mean first three days, two days without then last dose on the sixth day?. If so, I'd continue. The Nitrite is definitely the lesser of two evils in this case. Glad you had some Protozin handy, it's something I'm NEVER without. If you don't have a quarantine tank, take your bottle with you whenever you buy fish; just add a couple of drops before the bag is tied up in the shop. It's the next best thing to having a q tank. Let us know how you get on.
