So I'm getting bored with fishless cycling, and to help curve my appetite for getting fish, I got some rocks from outside to help decorate my tank a bit more. Before adding them, I of course washed, scrubbed and even boiled them in a pot.

But anyways, when I was moving things around in the tank, a good number of semi large (size of a nickel) 'gunk' things started to float up from the gravel. Much to large to be left over food (I went straight from having fish to fishless cycling after transplanting the fish I had to another tank). They were flat and think like a plate, and various colors, black, pink and white.

Any reason I should be worried or were some of those nothing more than the bacteria colonies I've been trying so hard to raise up?

Thanks

rocks from the outdoors, no mater how well you clean them can still bring unwanted things into your fish tank.

theres no reason to be worried. one of my tank(live plants) always has the stuff stuck around the roots and stuff. i think a lot of it is fish poo, some of its algae, and also decayed plant matter.

do you have sand? usualy those chunks of gunk fall through the rocks but like in my planted tank, the sand keeps it on top, and it collects and build up. just gravel vac it out

No I don't have sand, just gravel. I kinda figured it wouldn't be anything harmful, and when I do the massive water exchange after cycling I'm sure a lot of it will be pulled out.

Doubtful, I don't believe the gravel I've got is artificially colored. Its just the random white and dark rocks. I wanted to make my tank look a little more natural, and stayed away from the brightly colored kinds of rocks.
