My friend has bala sharks and tinfoil barbs. I know these get really big. But I'm interested to know how quickly they will grow. He has a 75 now which isn't big enough for full grown so I guess I need to help him plan as he's willing and able to buy bigger when needed.

ouch, you would have thought the LFS would have warned them! I hope your friend has lots of room. the tank the will need is very big.

Bala grow a bit more slowly then the barbs
how many of each has he got?

Its a shame really. I seen a man buy 4x10inch balas from a well known and respected shop with a great rep in Northern Ireland.
You could obviously tell he hadn't much of an idea about fish and certainly didn't know what the fish were that he way buying.

I had to step in and ask what size of a tank he had, he said a 3.5ft tank. I told him the tank was too small for fish of that size and especially four of them. Said they also need to be in larger groups, a minimum of 6. He still left the shop with the fish and I did regret saying that they need to be in bigger numbers as its bad enough four being in such a tank without 6.

The shop said nothing to them. They have all this spiel on their website about how they can and will refuse to sell you fish if your tank isn't cycled/suitable size.

Well my friend has room but he doesnt want the tank looking empty in the meantime and also may move across gown and figures moving a 75 will be easier than moving a 75 and 125.

He has about 12 tinfoil barbs and at the moment only 3 balas but only BC his friend who kept them til the tank was ready killed 3. So he will have 6.

I would get a bigger tank as soon as possible because these fish can get really big and if he doesn't get a bigger tank all his effort can be gone easily

Can everyone plz stop telling him to get a bigger tank as soon as possible and answer the question on the growth rate of the fish?
