Has anyone ever asked a local lfs for a few handfulls of gravel and they have obliged? I have a local pets at home and was wondering how to go about askng them. Thanks. GRJ

I doubt pets at home will, to save on costs alot of the larger coperate stores usually recycle alot of things. But if you dont ask you dont get.


Id guess id ask the manager what happens to there old gravel and stuff, and if he/she says they just chuck then ask, or just ask any way.

The local pet shop in this area offered me some of its tank water.

lol, thats generous of them (sarcasm).. But mixing there tank water with your own isnt a good idea. You could be taking deseases from one tank and putting them into yours.

I don't think the gravel or water is going to contain much bacteria, it's best to try and get some filter media, but this might be hard as I think most shops will have some sort of central filtration system rather than a traditional filter for every single tank, but it's worth a shot.
