I have a dojo loach that got stuck in a hole in his castle. I can't get him out and I can see it is cutting into him. I don't know what it's made of either. How can I get him out???
I agree, you will have to cut the ornament up. But you will have to be very careful that you don't cut the fish.
Sometimes you can put some vasaline inside the ornament and on the opening, so the fish can slide throw.
I am goign to try to cut it with tin snips when I get home. I don't think vaseline will work. He was kind of swollen this morning and I am not sure how long he's been there maybe a day or two because my pleco lives here there and he's been freaking out for two days now. I'm heartbroken and I hope he makes it. I've had him since he was about 2 inches long and he's now 7 inches
Well, I got him out. The problem is now he has this really deep dent in him where he just struggled so much it's rubbed flesh away. I've dosed the tank with Melafix and I hope he makes but he's not eating
Oh poor thing!! How's he doing today? Is he still in shock? Hopefully he'll recover from his wounds with the water changes and Melafix. Maybe keep the tank lights off a little longer than usual as that tends to help calm a stressed fish, too.
As of today he is still alive. Not looking so good though as he's not eating at all. Mostly sits at the bottom of the tank but will occasionally (once ever couple of hours) swim to the top of the tank.
Has he got any species mates? If not, the addition of some company might really cheer him/her up, these loaches are rather social
(I researched them a little after finding the six in Titchfield Maidenhead Aquatics were still there, a month on, at £4 each... So tempting if my 540 was not playing "sanctuary" to almost all the Rio240 refugees escaping the evil Lionhead Cichlid parents)
Sadly he did not make it through the night. His body above the injury started to look a little swollen.
Goat: If you ever get a chance you should get a couple of them. They have so much character! I have two left in my tank and they are probably my favorite.
