Hi there…Just a question before I do this job.

On Saturday I medicated my tank with its first dose of Interpet No.9 for a possible internal bacterial issue.

Anyway, today my ammonia is up slightly and I need to do a small water change…

I’m supposed to be giving the tank its second dose of interpet no.9 tomorrow anyway to complete the course.

So what I need to know is….while I’m adding my new water today, should I put some of the Interpet No.9 into the bucket to ‘top up’ the amount that was removed from the tank?

(I’ll work out the correct amount of course – I think it would only be half a pipette for my bucket.)

Or should I just leave it alone and add the clean water as normal, without adding any of the medication?

What to other people do in this instance?

:thanks:

It’s always a slightly tough call in this sort of situation; good water quality is v important in curing diseases so the water changes are a must however if you have to change the water you either end up only part medicating or run the risk of overdosing when you top up.

My thoughts is to do the water change and to top up, however do be careful to get your measurements spot on so you don’t overdose.

Ah thanks Miss Wiggle!! Always there when we need ye! :good:

Yes, that was my thinking...I didn't want to dilute the medication down and interrupt the course.

Well, I've just checked....my bucket is a 10 litre bucket so the Interpet no.9 bottle says that I have to give one full pipette for every 10 litres. So thats easy to work out .

I'll do a 10 litre water change....put my Aqua+ in to de-chlorinate, and then a few minutes later, I'll add my Intepet No.9....and pop all back into the tank.

Sorted!

Tricky.

Had a similar situation myself a few years back while medicating and was unsure what to do (didn't know about this forum then)

My solution was to stop feeding, add ammonia lock to detoxify the detected ammonia and carried on with the medication as directed.

It worked for me :D
