So this morning I was doing some maintenance on the tank, gathering dead leaves and re-planting some of the plants etc. Rocket of course was making his annoyance at the intrusion perfectly clear :) Have you ever been headbutted by a Betta ? He takes a long swim up and charges... !

Anyway, As part of my maintenance I decided to re-position the filter and heater so they were concealed a bit more by the plants. Dutifully unplugged them and did some rearranging. Started putting everything back together.

My dad walks in, tells me he thinks the sun roof in his car is leaking, come help him look. So I look back at the tank to make sure the lid is on, everything looks fine and I headed out to help.

So we spent half an hour messing with the car (the roof is leaking....)

Came back in and watched the communtiy tank a bit while talking to mum for a while.

I remembered I had to go pay some money into the bank for my friend so put my jacket on and headed downtown.

Spent ages trying to find a parking spot.

Walked to the other end of town to stand in the queue in the bank.

Decided to buy lunch form the baker on the way home.

Ate lunch, fed the dog.

Started reading some forums. (3 hours pass).

Then about 10 mins ago I look up at Rocket's tank and notice there's no movement in the plants.

Doh ! I had forgot to plug the heater and filter back in :( So it's been off for maybe 5 hours... hopefully with it being submerged there won't have been too much bacteria die off. At least the temp had only fallen to 24C (usually it's 25).

And now I think I'm coming down with a cold to round it off. They say bad things come in threes ...right ?

oh dear its not your day is it?

your filter should be fine, my filter on my community tank was off (accidentaly, my dad unplugged it to have a shave :grr: ) for getting on to 10 hours, my fish didnt look too happy, but apart from faded colours on the fish and them acting a bit lethargic they were fine by morning, so there was nothing wrong with the media, just the fact that it was off for that length of time. No casualties.

Lets hope tomorrow's looking a little better for you hey?

edit: your betta shouldnt come out badly from the heater either, 24 degrees is fine, mine went down to 21 the other day (forgot to plug it back in lol) and the fish were fine.
