Skyler and his brother and sisters were found with their half starve mother under a shed next to the dead body of their dad. Mother is Belle, brothers Rubist, Petey, Tripoli, Harry, and sister gracie. They are about 7 weeks old and despite their horrific beginings are doing real well. They have recieved their first shots and been dewormed. :-(

he is old enough to go from the bathurst shelter this saturday!

he is dalmation/black lab mix, what do you think of him?

He is absolutely adorable!!!!   What a sweet little baby boy... I'm sure he'll have a wonderful life with you!

He's lovely. He is lucky to have a good home to go to. Can we see some more pics when he is older? :)

some bad news ppl, i got this email this morning from the shelter:

Hello Cindy,
We are going to have to ask you to delay pciking up Skyler til next week.
We are holding adoptions on all our dogs for the next 10 days. We had a dog come in last week from the rural animal control officer and it turned out that it had come in with parvo. There is a slight possibility that Skyler was exposed to this dog and we don't want to take a chance to adopt him out until we see if anything develops. Although the dog was only in the shelter for 2 days we are taking preventive measures by doing extra cleaning and placing all the remaining dogs under close observation in case. Skyler and the remaining puppies are the most subceptible to any virus so we will be isolating them. We should know within the next 10 days if any other dogs were affected. Because this disease is so deadly to puppies we would not want to give you a sick dog to take home as it is very costly to treat. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you rather change your mind we understand. Please let me know what you would like to do.

That sucks! But at least they're a responsible shelter and are quarantining all the dogs.

That does suck. I hate that disease :grr:
I hope you end up getting your puppy and I hope that all of the dogs there are ok. Good luck and keep us posted.

i got another email and they said:

Thanks for your patience. The dog in question was in the shelter 48 hours. He was in the same room with the puppies although not in the same area. A puppy that did go out on Saturday has been reported to have had some mild symptoms although Skyler has shown no signs but each puppy is different. Two puppies that went out before the dog in question got there have shown no signs at all. Normally the virus will come out from 3 to 14 days after initial exposure. The dog left on the 27th so next weekend if Skyler has shown no other signs he should be ok. We will make sure you activate your free pet insurance right away as it will cover parvo. This is why vaccinations are so important for owned dogs as it is so easily spread. This dog was owner released but had never been given vaccines. We gave it a vaccine when it came in but it already had the virus in its system and the vaccine brought out the disease.
I'll let you now how Skyler does.
Joyce
