I ran out of Prime but I need to do a WC.

I have some API Tap Water Conditioner from about 2 years ago. Its been open all that time. Is it safe to use?

Usually if you call the company they will tell you how long an opened bottle lasts

Was it kept in a cool dark place like a cupboard? I'd imagine that would make a difference. Any use by date on the bottle?

I think there is a date on the bottle by which it should be used. I had a bottle of the API Tap Water Conditioner for 9 or 10 years, the largest size, which worked out to be considerably less that buying smaller bottles more often. So far as I know, it still worked, fish were alive throughout.

Well, that settles it. Thank you!

I had Prime conditioner go bad on me, it was a 500ml bottle I used for a few years. It took me too long to realize it, a test with snails in a bucket confirmed that the conditioner was not working. With new conditioner the snails no longer receeded into their shells in freshly treated water. Fixed a lot of other issues I was having too....

Expiration dates are fine but they assume a closed container. I would NEVER us a product that was left open for two years. Evaporation causing a higher strength is one factor as mentioned above but, in my opinion, the bigger is the possibility of contaminants entering the open container. Throw away the old stuff and buy new. It is not an expensive product.
