Hi all,

My partner and I want to set up an aquarium on an unused stretch of kitchen counter.  The space is 1 metre long by 60cm deep, but there's a cupboard 45cm above it, so once we factor in a hood and light we're going to struggle to get in a tank much taller than 30cm.  We want the biggest tank we can fit in the space to maximise our stocking options, but most non-nano tanks seem to be at least 40cm tall excluding the hood

are there any decent sized tanks that will fit in that gap?  Please help!!

(I suppose I should also ask at this point whether putting a fish tank on a kitchen counter is a good idea

At my LFS they have a 20 gallon that is very short and long, I would say its about 30 cm tall , but I could be wrong. good luck finding one to fit, and if you do, keep me posted.

One not have one built for your specifications :), I have tanks on kitchen counters.

I am tempted to have one made, but I don't know where to go!

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm just browsing their website now, it looks really good.  Do they deliver all over the UK?

The only problem (unless they have changed their policy) with clear seal is they do not supply to the public, you have to go to one of their suppliers.

There are quite a few aquarium manufacturers about,

Poseidon's palace - Jez is a really nice chap.
ND aquatics - Hertfordshire
aw aquatics - Birmingham

these are 3 just off the top of my head.

I don't think they have changed their policy, but there are quite a few retailers who stock them and they inturn can get you a custom unit.

Fantastic - thank you guys, I literally had no idea where to begin!

Nd deliver country wide. Alot of people swear by them and they have an evergrowing reputation

Just a thought, but if your cupboard is 45cm above the work top and you want a tank that's 30cm tall that doesn't leave you a lot of room for access. There might be ways round it but it's definitely something to consider

Build your own, it's easy. Get a glass company to cut the glass to size and take off the rough edges and use silicon seal made for aquarium use as a means of sticking the whole thing together. I made my tank which is 6'x2'x2' with no problems.

I keep a small tank on my kitchen worksurface and like yours the space is 45cm high.  My tank is 34cm tall and access can be a bit of a struggle due to the limited clearance.

If its a nuisance, shift the cupboard
