From that list, the potential issue I see is with the betta and the Danios. From what I've seen, that could be a little "iffy." I've also seen some cautions about Bettas with ghost shrimp, or any invertebrates, too. Aside from the temperament concerns, it seems that the suitable water temperature for danios and bettas is slightly different. Danios like cooler water (18C - 23C) and bettas like warmer water (25C - 28C). Largely, though, bettas are unpredictable as to how one will behave with the Danios and the shrimp. It depends more upon the particular betta you get, than anything else. Another caution is that mollies like water that is saltier than that preferred by bettas. At the end of the day, these are really just things to be mindful of. I'm not suggesting that this stocking list you've proposed is untenable.

Ssharp got the nail dead on. They're potential issues rather than definite problems. Personally, I would change up the Danios for something like Harlequin Rasboras  From experience, they are much calmer and I keep 6 harlequins in with a blue male Betta and 3 Otos in a similar sized tank.

One thing to note is that Bettas like fairly still water conditions and don't really get along with turbulent waters very well and will take them a good week or so to adjust.

EDIT: How is the cycling coming along?

This tropical fish thing is so complex!!! Loving it, would have had a terrible learning curve if I had not joined this forum though - books dont tell you enough!

I knew betta were iffy with some other fish but thought id see how it went and if it failed I was going to get another smaller tank for the betta to be alone if it wanted to be.

The fishless cycling is rather boring, hate having a running tank with nothing in it but whatever is safest I dont want any dead fish... its all going accordingly onto day 5 tomorrow!

Thanks for the very useful reply! I think I may review my fish, its hard to find the optimum plan as a newbie I just think that the betta fish are rather beautiful and am trying to think of some friends for the tank that wont bother him/her. Thanks again I didnt realise I had to go that in depth but will continue researching into the points you suggested could be iffy...

you may get away with the betta... i know alot of people would say otherwise, bit i house a male with some guppys fine... but he is a bit of a puff. I tried to breed him, bubble nest went up mateing underway :)... then she beat him up :(. He almost seems to "school" with the guppys now. The female has joined the other female bettas in the big tank for now. (need to decide what to do next lol)

If you do go for a betta, a tip is to add the other fish 1st and put him last so he doesnt establish his territory 1st, and nail anything which comes near it.

Are you adding a source of ammonia while cycling? what size fiter you got? i could cut the sponge from my small tank in half, would only be 3cmx3cmx3cm or so but if it would fit under your media, it may speed up the cycle and colonise your media quicker.

I got interpret filter start from pets at home as advised... but ive just googled it and it doesnt even have ammonia in it - whaaaat! Why would he give me it? I told him I wanted to do a fishless cycle... I dont like pets at home anymore :( I think I may have to start again!

My filter is just the one that came with the tank - classica power bio 700... but has got quite a strong current for a betta fish and dont know how to slow it down, im planning on buying a tetratec 600 in the future.

I need a new plan of action!

Many of the smaller shrimp species (cherries, crystals) can be predated upon by a fighter, but the larger ones, such as ghost and amano are fine. That is certainly my experience.

With regard to the Danios - Steve is very nearly right. Most Danio species like cooler waters, as they live in fast-flowing streams. However, the Celestial Pearl Danio is not like the other common Danio species, they don't zzzzooooooommm around like a zebra danio, their natural habitat is for more still waters, and they like 20C-26C, so IMO would co-exist well with a Fighter. My only caveat is that the Fighter may initmidate them at feeding time, and you would need to ensure that you had food small enough for them.

I would suggest that the aquarium be fairly densely planted, as this will help them feel more secure. The fact that they can easily hide means they don't feel they have to all the time, so they will exhibit their natural behaviour more.

In a 60l, I would personally have a large shoal of say 12 CPDs + the Fighter and Ghost Shrimp, and scrub the mollies. Not because they need salty water (IME, they don't) but because they're often bullies, and can take a dislike to a Fighter.

A piece of old tights secured over the outlet does a wonder, or make a spray bar, or buy one. one of the earlier options are much cheaper (some bettas dont mind a bit flow,, depends if its a massive whirl pool, then its bad). Mine like to sit infont of the one i have just put in an established tank with the old filter still running to culture bacteria to the new media for my fry tank. and he loves going for a little blast infront of it.

I like to use the guy at harton village, the aquatic centre i think its called. He does not stock a huge range of fish, but they are all well kept good quality tanks. When i was cycling mine i just had a few zebra danions in,they are hard as nails and ammonium producing beasts, 3 for £1.99 you cannot go wrong either. No issues at all, then stock it up from their. 2 of my mates got a small tank from pets at home at the same time as me and fish. Out of about 12 fish i think only 3 are still alive now. All died of ich or white spot. Only deaths i have occured are through stupid fish wedging themselfs behing rocks or filters :( or jumpers despite a lid!

If you need a hand with anything i'll try my best to help like, but i'm fairly new to this game too, but a bit addicted lol.

I have a spray bar but its quite strong it pushes my plants all over and moves the sand near it! Yeah I agree pets at home have so many dead fish even when you just go to look at them its terrible.
Would your filter sponge fit in my filter do you think? Im desperate to do this right and as fast as possible :) I am willing to pay? Thanks again for help do you have fb

Most people on this forum would suggest you were right the first time with fishless.

Whilst Maguire is right that Zebra Danios are tough, they need more space than a 60l provides, and in any case, is it really fair on them to deliberately subject them to ammonia and nitrite poisoning? Just because they're tough, doesn't mean they don't suffer.

I am sticking with my fishless cycle I dont want to put any hardy fish through it even if they do survive but this is personal opinion as im sure its fine but I am going on holiday on the 27th so for this reason I do not want to leave them in case anything gets majorly high and dangerous when im away :)

Good call :) you dont want to come back to some floaters and rotten tank!

Gold dust in informational, text based form right there :p

Yeah i do, if you search for ryan maguire in shields my profile pic is the same on here. You can just cut a piece off and have it to size to squeeze into the bottom if your filter. And if theirs enough ammonia it will grow and culture onto your media. Try the spray bar pointing up, but submerged about an inch... their will be little mounds of water. Its is good for surface aggrigation while minimising current. In my 125lt i have a bioflow 1000lt/h so its pretty strong current (the guy who had it befor me had it for malawi cichlids. But i made a spray bar and done what i said above and works pretty well, my gouramis have managed to build bubble nests and spawn bout 3 or 4 times.

Go for platies over mollies any day, if you get females only they're very placid and they come in amazing colours.

Danios are boring and mine are always trying to find new and inventive ways if committing suicide. They do better in cold water, I'd go with tetras instead.
