I have just looked at my Plec who usually swims in all glory with fin standing up it is now close to his body. Why ??

How long have you had your pleco? I don't think anything is wrong. Most of the time mine has his down with it occasionally up and down when he's swimming. If he's new, maybe he was stressed and flared out all the time and now he's relaxed.

But I've only had mine for 3 weeks, so I could be wrong.

When fish hold their fins down to their body, called clamping their fins), it is a sign of stress. How big is your tank, what are your water stats (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH), what other tank mates do you have? Are there any other signs of illness such as scratching against objects in the tank, rapid breathing, or sores?

The Plec was in my little tank and was always the star of the show. I was told he would need larger accomodation and he has moved. He has been fine as off Sunday to Wednesday and the water was bad. Strange thing is the water is better again and he is as you said probably happier. I prefer him with his tale standing as he is such a lovely one(Biased). Guess I'll see him this evening/ tomorrow morning as he doesn't come out much during the day.
Thanks. I was worried when the Nitrates Spiked after being okay for three days. Guess putting too many fish in is not so good. I would learn from this and add gradually but keep being told different things.

he's back to swimming and hovering around with fin up. Happy me again!!! :D
