A dye you can add to your tank to check your flow which can then be removed that is non toxic to plants and fish???

I was thinking this only myself the other day, I guess you could add potassium iodide, though I'm not sure of its effects on fish, to get rid of it you'd add dechlorinator, as the thiosulphate ions in it will bind the iodide, you could use potassium bromide as well, again, not sure of its affects on fish.

Some medicines when added go different colours. I had an algae bloom at one stage and had to add some medicine in to help reduce it. Because the medicine was blue and stayed blue for a good 2 hours, you could see it move around the tank so you got an idea of the water flow. Saying that properly not a good idea to add it if you haven't got any problems with your water.

How about putting something in which (solid) will float mid way in the water, like part of a vegetable or maybe string. They are only ideas and properly won't work

I just keep an eye on were the Co2 bubbles are going, I no they float up a bit as they travel around the tank but it gives you a good idea of what's going were and what's not going were.

A liquid of some type would be cool tho

Yeah the prob is you can't tell of dead spots with those ideas, with a liquid you could. I was wondering as with setting up a vision 450 and using 2 x FX5 filters as it will be heavily planted and I want good flow. I don't want to use a koralia as they can create to much current for Discus and was thinking of this because I've got the dilema of where to put my 2 sets of lily pipes and with some kind of dye I could try out different positions. :)
