I thought that initially, but then you said it was still alive upside down and then you flushed it and therefore it died.

I'm glad it's not suffering anymore

Looked at your picture of your tank and you could really spice it up with some plants and one of those picture things behind it. That is what I did. If you're looking for a bigger tank see if you have a free cycle website in your area and post that you are looking for one. You never know you might get lucky!

I did not chose the red white and blue rocks... my 10 year old did. I would have gone with gray or black..lol

Tip #1 - ignore Petco advice (don't be rude, just don't take what they say as . You should be doing around about a 25% water change weekly as standard practice anyway, and I very much doubt you have a nitrate "problem". Nitrate is very rarely a problem, it can be very high out of the tap in many areas.

If you meant nitrIte instead of nitrAte, then you have a big problem - adding fish is that last thing you should have done and standard weekly water changes aren't going to cut it. Try 50% daily.

Also, do note that test strips are notoriously inaccurate, so don't rely on the results too much. If the results are bad, then yes, the water is probably bad, but they wont give you accurate readings of how bad it is.

And yes, fish can go for days without food. If you go on holiday for a week, just get someone to come in a couple of times and feed a pre-measured amount (stops them from over feeding). Adding some live plants is also good for things like tetras that are able to eat them.

yeah I got home yesterday and the 2 mollies and one of the female guppies died. today i did a 40% water change. The tap water after treating with aqua safe tests safe for all 6 nitrate, ph, nitrite, hardness, alcylity, and i forget what else.

so i will do 25-40% water change as needed, maybe every week.

I do a 50% water change every 7 to 9 days with a really good gravel vac.. My fish enjoy it and it keeps my tank looking good and smelling good.
