Hi everyone,

The temperature in our area has been really fluctuating recently and I think its affecting my tank temp. For example, its really hot today and the tank temp. is 28 but a few days ago it was between 24 and 25 when the weather was colder.

Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my heater?

Yes its totally normal, but you should do somthing about cooling your tank in hot weather though as such large fluctuations in temperature are very stressful for fish.

I don't use celcius, so that was lost on me. However, sudden changes are not good, but gradual increases in temperature are more easily handled by fish than are gradual decreases. I would think the same holds true for sudden changes...

30degrees is 86 farenheit :)

Most fish can handle 28 with no problems but it you are concerned then you could stick a fan near the tank to keep it cool.

I have my heater set for 26C so when it does go up the difference isn't as much. The fish are quite happy with it at 26c. It went up to 30 today but they weren't overly bothered by it. Think I was more concerned then they were! If it seems to go up and down alot I'd recommend setting the heater slightly higher to stop the change being so dramatic. It can be lowered again once summer is over.
Hugs,
P.
