Probably a stupid question oh well~
I saw one at my LFS the other day and I'm thinking of getting one :D
And I have moderate water current, is that ok? Never had a betta before

bettas di best with very little current as there not the best swimmers due to all that finnage, avoid guppies as they will attack anything with long colourful fins as they will think its a rival male

what about bettas and other bettas? O:

female bettas can go together nicely but NEVER two males as they will fight to the death. They can't go with guppies because of the flashing fins guppies have. I've been told it's a possibility with Platies as I was considering one male with my platies. But was told to observe the bettas in the shop and pick one that is ignoring his tank mates to ensure I get a docile one. I decided not to risk it.

FEMALE betta's can go together in groups of 5-6+ and they can go with male or female guppies. MALE betta's cannot go together and they can't go with male guppies but they can work with female guppies.

Cheers,

sorry to butt in to this topic but could I then have female bettas with my platies with no problems?

Yeah sure. They'd go fine. If anyone on here asks if I can prove that females go with male guppies I can easily tell them that I have a female betta living with 2 male guppies in a 6 gallon. Both guppies were added AFTER the betta and she just leaves them alone. Anyway, female betta's can go fine with just about any livebearer. They may not be fancy or have long fins but they make up for that because they can live with a bigger range of fish than males.

Thanks for the advice paradise!! :D

I have had a male fighter with male guppies but I kept him in a breeding trap for a few days first until he gave up displaying at the guppies and the guppies started to ignore him. When I let him out the fighter and the guppies seemed to have a mutual truce and I never had any nipping or attacks, the fighter lived with the guppies for quite a while and enjoyed hunting down and eating any young guppy fry. This was in a 5ft tank with plenty of plant life and sheltered areas, in a small tank with too many other fish I think the nipping and attacks would be more likely and worse. Also I think I just had a really tolerant boy he always just mooched around and ignored the other fish (except for the all too tempting fry).

i also have a male betta in with guppys and platies both male and female.its the second male betta ive kept with these fish.ive never had no problems with them eating the fry aswell as i am starting to get over ran with both guppy and platie fry.all i can say is its a very delicate situation and i watched them for a full 24hrs before i left the tank side.sad i no but i wasnt going to let my stock get savaged.
regards

I have a male and a group of female bettas in with hi-fin platys and loads of platy fry. They all get along just fine :)
